Enjoy a luxury break at the Rocco Forte Verdura resort, tucked away in the South West of the island. Voted best golf resort in Italy, boasting a couple of courses, we took a mini-moon to this resort where we were able to explore the 230 hectares of sun-kissed Mediterranean coastline and countryside on bikes and on foot.
Our spacious sea facing room was flooded by light during the day, and boasted a balcony ideal to catch sundown before heading down for dinner in the evening. An added touch of romantic luxury came from the magnificent four poster bed, and thoughtful turndown service.
We were greeted by staff each morning at breakfast by our name, not our room number. This small attention to detail added to the customer experience not often extended by other hotels.

Jumping in our rental car, we visited the nearby town of Mazara del Vallo. Steeped in history, these ruins were a beautiful place to explore.

SCIACCA
A bit further around the coast is the small but busy fishing village of Scicca. The fisherman house steep in the mountain side, and quaint family run cafes can be found down little allyways, tables set out on the cobbled streets, no menu, just a few pictures of dishes on their owner's phone and broken English. We had the most delicious pasta and fresh seafood here.

Our final day out was to visit Paceco - Salt Museum and Windmill. There's a small tour to see how the salt was traditionally collected and tools of a bygone age. It's pictureque especially in the later afternoon sunlight. Driving away we spotted Flamingos in the nearby waters.
